Every Cake Day action available from Slack starts with /cakeday followed by a subcommand. All responses are ephemeral — only you see them — unless the command posts a shoutout to a channel.
All command responses are ephemeral and only visible to you. The only messages visible to your team are real scheduled shoutouts posted to your celebration channels.

Commands for everyone

These commands are available to all workspace members, regardless of admin status.
CommandWhat it does
/cakeday meOpens a modal where you can view or update your birthday and work start date, or remove yourself from the roster.
/cakeday adminsLists the current Cake Day admins and the celebration channels configured for your workspace. Also available as /cakeday who.
/cakeday helpShows available commands. Admin-only commands are shown only if you’re an admin. If the paused state is active, a notice appears here.

Commands for admins only

These commands are restricted to Cake Day admins. Running them as a non-admin returns an ephemeral “Admins only” message.
CommandWhat it does
/cakeday invite @userSends a Cake Day DM invite to the specified user. The invite asks them to add their birthday and work start date. Omit @user to open a picker modal and select someone from a list.
/cakeday broadcastOpens the broadcast flow to send a Cake Day invite DM to the whole workspace. Available on Starter and above.
/cakeday test @userGenerates and previews a birthday shoutout for @user. The preview is ephemeral — only you see it.
/cakeday test @user anniversaryPreviews a work-anniversary shoutout for @user instead.
/cakeday usageShows your annual celebration budget: your plan tier, how many celebrations you’ve sent, your cap, how many remain, and when the period resets.
/cakeday setupRedirects to the setup wizard if your workspace hasn’t completed initial setup, or to the dashboard if setup is already done.

Redirects to the dashboard

The following subcommands redirect you to the Settings page at cakeday.io/app/settings. They exist so that commands you may have memorized from an earlier version of Cake Day still work and take you somewhere useful.
  • /cakeday channel
  • /cakeday time
  • /cakeday timezone
  • /cakeday pause
  • /cakeday resume
All configuration for channels, post time, timezone, and the pause toggle lives in the web dashboard rather than Slack commands.
