Most Cake Day issues fall into a handful of common categories. Work through the relevant section below. If nothing here resolves your issue, email info@mswdigital.com with your workspace name and a description of the problem — paid plan customers receive a response within 1 business day, Free plan within 2 business days.
Work through these checks in order:
  1. Check if Cake Day is paused. Run /cakeday admins — if Cake Day is paused, a notice appears in the response. Resume at cakeday.io/app/settings.
  2. Verify the celebration channel is still accessible. If the channel was deleted or the bot was removed from it, shoutouts can’t be posted. Go to Settings and re-select the channel.
  3. Check your annual cap. Run /cakeday usage to see how many celebrations you’ve used this period. If you’ve hit the limit, upgrade your plan at cakeday.io/app/billing or wait for your reset date.
  4. Confirm roster entries for today. At least one active roster member must have today as their birthday or work anniversary for a shoutout to post.
Skipped celebrations due to a cap are logged but not retroactively posted after an upgrade. Only future celebrations will be sent once you upgrade.
  • Make sure you typed the command exactly: /cakeday me with no extra spaces or characters.
  • If the modal doesn’t open, try running the command from a different Slack channel. Some channels block modals from opening.
  • Confirm Cake Day is installed in your workspace by visiting cakeday.io/app. If it isn’t installed, click Add to Slack.
Your workspace has most likely hit its annual celebration cap.
  • Run /cakeday usage to check your current usage and reset date.
  • Skipped celebrations are logged in the activity log but are not retroactively posted after an upgrade.
  • Upgrading your plan restores headroom immediately for all future celebrations. Visit cakeday.io/app/billing to upgrade.
  • Make sure you’re signed in with the correct Slack workspace at cakeday.io/sign-in.
  • If you see “Workspace not found,” your workspace may not have Cake Day installed yet. Click Add to Slack to install it.
  • Try signing out and back in if you recently switched workspaces.
  • Check whether the teammate has already opted out. Their status in the Roster page will show Opted out if they previously declined.
  • If they need a fresh invite, go to the Roster page, find the member, and send a new invite from there. You can also run /cakeday invite @user in Slack.
Send them a new invite to re-add them. You can do this two ways:
  • Run /cakeday invite @user in Slack
  • Go to the Roster page in the dashboard and use the invite option from there
They’ll receive a fresh DM invite with the option to add their dates.
Cake Day has its own admin system separate from Slack workspace roles. The commands /cakeday invite, /cakeday broadcast, /cakeday usage, and /cakeday test are restricted to designated Cake Day admins — not all Slack workspace owners or admins are Cake Day admins by default.
  • Run /cakeday admins to see who the current Cake Day admins are and who to contact.
  • Ask a current Cake Day admin to add you at cakeday.io/app/admins.
To remove Cake Day from your workspace:
  1. In Slack, go to your workspace’s Apps section.
  2. Find Cake Day and select Remove app (or go to Settings → Apps → Manage and remove it from there).
After uninstall, all roster and configuration data is deleted within 30 days. Stripe billing records are retained for up to 7 years per tax law. See Privacy & Data for details.
Uninstalling is permanent. Roster data cannot be recovered after the 30-day deletion window.
